Monday, July 1st, 1:30 PM: Kids Letterboxing Adventure
Similar to geocaching, but without the GPS, kids are given a set of clues to follow to lead them to a letterbox. A Chik-Wauk staff member will accompany kids on their search for the letterboxes hidden on the Chik-Wauk property. Appropriate for elementary school aged children and those young at heart.
Tuesday, July 2nd, 3 pM: U.S. Forest Service Presentation: Bats
Flying mammals?! How fascinating! Learn all about bats of the North woods with U.S. Forest Service naturalists Inga and Steve.
Wednesday, July 4th, 11-4: Stories With Harriet & Bill
Harriet Taus and Bill Boissenin grew up on Clearwater Lake and share childhood stories. You’ll learn the history of Harriet’s parents, Charlie and Petra Boostrom, who were among the first white settlers on the Gunflint Trail and hear stories from the early days of Clearwater and Forest Lodge.
Friday, July 5th, 2 PM: Journal Making Workshop
Chik-Wauk staff and volunteers teach a simple technique to make small journals to log nature observations and other notes. After you’ve assembled your journal, you can decorate it however you choose, using collage, stamping, drawing and more. Appropriate for all ages.
Sunday, July 7th, 2 PM: Breeding Birds of C-W
Look for evidence of birds that live around Chik-Wauk and find out why they choose to nest here with Ann Russ. A retired teacher, Ann has been birding in Cook County for thirty years and loves exploring the natural world with others.
