Sunday Afternoon Nature Presentations - Dave Battistel

Sunday, August 14

02:00pm - 03:00pm

Sunday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. have been set aside for our special presentations.

Gunflint & Lake Superior: Ontario’s private American railroad by Dave Battistel.

This is the story of a Wisconsin logging company whose headquarters was located in Port Arthur, Ontario and for many years was the largest employer in the city. It incorporated and built a railroad in Minnesota to harvest timber, a railroad that had no American terminus or connection; it’s only access was through Canada. The logs cut in Minnesota were transported to Port Arthur to be processed into lumber and then were shipped primarily to a burgeoning construction market in western Canada.

All presentations are family friendly and free to the public, they will be held inside the Chik-Wauk Nature Center.

Donations are appreciated.
